Complications
According to recent studies, complications and side effects associated with Invokana® can be fatal. Since Invokana® causes changes in your blood sugar, some side effects may occur as a result of taking this medication, including:
- urinating a lot, including at night
- increased thirst
- constipation
- dry mouth
Taking Invokana® may lead to ketoacidosis, a dangerous condition in which the body produces high levels of blood acids.
Even more dangerous – ketoacidosis can lead to more complications, including low potassium levels which can cause a fatal cardiac incident, swelling of the brain (also called a cerebral edema), and kidney failure.
Some common signs, symptoms and complications of ketoacidosis include:
- Decreased alertness
- Deep, rapid breathing
- Dry skin and mouth
- Flushed face
- Frequent urination and thirst
- Fruity-smelling breath
- Headache
- Muscle stiffness or aches
- Nausea and vomiting
- Stomach pain
